Special congratulations goes out to all of our Dance Alliance Repertory Company members for having an amazing 2009-2010 season so far! We began the season last June with over 30 DARC members receiving scholarships for classes at Dance Alliance. These dancers and their families give so much of themselves that we felt they should be rewarded for their continued "Extra Effort"! The next week, we started our four intense weeks of workshops and rehearsals. During these four weeks the dancers learned mass amounts of choreography for the new season as well as prepared technically for some of our summer trips. On our first trip of the summer we took a handful of girls to L.A. for the LA Dance Magic Nationals. Allie Harris was finishing up her year with LADM as one of their apprentices/assistants and Heather Theisen, Kelly Kerastas and Hayley Shannon were finishing up their year as LADM Company members. Also in attendance using scholarships that were awarded during the season was Grace Harmon, Lissa Kryska, Lindsay Pascoe, Honora Wood and Michaela Wood. Following the LADM Nationals week, we had a day of fun at California Adventure and Downtown Disney before moving on to the next leg of our trip. This was a much deserved day and the girls had a great time on all the rides at California Adventure. Our next venture for the summer was with Lissa Kryska, Heather Theisen, Honora Wood and Michaela Wood also in Los Angeles. During this trip the girls participated in LA Dance Magic's premiere showcase concert, Final Cut. These girls auditioned, rehearsed and performed in the concert all in six days! It was an amazing week for the girls and they truly rose to the occasion. While at Final Cut they were also auditioning for the LA Dance Magic Company. All four of the girls were excepted and have been touring with LADM this season as part of that crew. Congratulations to the four of them for working so hard and taking their careers to the next level. They were absolutely amazing on this trip! This has been a great opportunity for these girls. They have traveled to many cities this season perfecting their craft. Next, we traveled with a group to New York City. In attendance: Kelly Barbret, Emma Housner, Isabel Housner, Bailey Pogliano, Nicole Ozminkowski, Jen Roberts, Kyleigh Terris, Lindsay Walter, Kimberly Sackett and the Clark family. We had an amazing stay on the upper west side across from Steps on Broadway. They filled their days with numerous classes and of course many excellent touristy adventures all over the city. This was one of the best trips we have had to NYC. These girls wanted to take more dance classes per day than we have ever taken before. They worked hard. Job well done! We attended LA Dance Magic this season in Houston and Detroit, with Chicago to come later in March. In these cities, dozens of dancers participated and should have walked away feeling very accomplished. In Houston, Amanda Fischer was in attendance on scholarship and while in this city, received another scholarship for the LADM Nationals. Congratulations! This was also the first city for the four DARC girls that are a part of the LADM Company. They worked and rehearsed for hours. What an amazing weekend for them. Very tiring, but incredible. Congrats to them! A small handful of dancers attended LA Dance Force at the end of January. In attendance was: Alex Bres, Amanda Fischer, Grace Harmon, Emily Harmon, Emma Housner, Emily Lance, Jen Roberts and Kyleigh Terris. This group in attendance was incredible. Congrats to them for going way above and beyond their normal dance activities and attending this convention. At this convention, Amanda Fischer was awarded with a two-week scholarship to the Edge in Los Angeles, CA. Congratulations Amanda! While in Detroit at LA Dance Magic, numerous dancers made it through both the ballet and jazz portions of the audition and were considered for various scholarships. These dancers were: Andrea Doa, Amanda Coy, Alex Bres, Caitlin Ryan, Erin Healy, Isabel Housner, Sarah Finegan, Olivia Gorney, Emily Huetteman, Lauren Nyitray, Meagan Nielsen, Christina Bartson, Stacey Zielinski, Bailey Pogliano, Emily Harmon, Monica Czechowicz, Jessica Kunz, Allie Verhines, Annie Lee, Kyleigh Terris, Grace Harmon, Jen Roberts, Kendall Buie, Katie Foley, Megan Smith, Nicole Ozminkowski, Caty Raupp and Christina Vollano. Some of these girls above received scholarships and regardless of awards, all of them should be very proud of their accomplishments! On top of the many scholarships, Stacey Zielinski was named as one of the Teen Magic Performers of the weekend and received scholarships along with the honor. We couldn't be happier for Stacey and her many accomplishments this season. Congratulations to all of you. We also had a wonderful experience competing at this event. We received gold awards, high gold awards, platinum awards, 2-high score overall awards and one routine was selected to perform in the faculty show at the conclusion of the convention. How amazing for the company! We are looking forward to our many ventures this summer. We will be at the LA Dance Magic Nationals for our 5th year in Irvine, CA along with participating in LA Dance Magic's showcase concert, "Final Cut", in Los Angeles, CA. We will follow up those two weeks with our annual trip to NYC to dance at Steps On Broadway and Broadway Dance Center. We will post a list of dancers that attend these trips. They need a round of applause and special recognition for going above and beyond the normal weekly dance routine.

As a professional performer working in NYC, I can without a doubt say the training I received from Adam and Lisa Clark has been incomparable. When I first came to them I had a limited working knowledge of dance, despite many years of classes as a child. The Clarks immediately began to train me to the best of my abilities. I went from not being able to do one single turn to taking classes from top choreographers across the country and competing in the Top 10 for the chance to represent Michigan at Miss America. Now, I can walk into a class in NYC and know that I have the ability to tackle a variety of styles and levels. But more important than learning a new step or two (or 10) has been that my self-confidence as a person has grown with every step I’ve mastered. The performance world is tough, but the discipline and hard work that is put into the training at Dance Alliance has translated far beyond the studio walls. They say you never know what you can do until you try. That is exactly what their curriculum asks; that you try and work just a little bit harder with every class; the outcome is amazing! I walk into auditions, onto TV sets and stages in New York and know that I can perform as an actor because my body and mind have been trained to look at material as a chance to explore and push my abilities and talent. I can not begin to thank Adam and Lisa enough for providing me with a challenging and nurturing environment where I could learn more than I ever dreamed possible! Living in a big city is fantastic, but Dance Alliance is a gem to be treasured! |
